Adding Your First Connector
Start with something low-stakes. A calendar or a document folder is a good first choice. Do not begin with your email or your payment system.
The steps are similar in most assistants. Open the settings, find the section for connectors or integrations, choose the app, and click Connect. You will be sent to that app’s own sign-in page to approve access. That is normal, and it is also the moment to read what you are approving.
Look for whether the access is read-only or lets the assistant make changes. Where there is a choice, start with read-only. Reading is far lower risk than sending, deleting or editing.
Then test it with a harmless question, such as asking what is on your calendar for Thursday, and check the answer against reality. If the answer is wrong, you have learned something about how far to trust it before it matters.
Finally, take a note of how to turn it off. Every connector should be removable from the assistant’s settings, and the app you connected also lists which outside apps have access, where you can revoke it.
Takeaway: start with a low-stakes app, choose read-only access, test with a harmless question, and know how to switch it off.
