Why an AI Needs Connections
On its own, an AI assistant knows what it learned in training and what you paste into the chat. It cannot see your calendar, read a document in your drive, check your store’s orders, or send an email. That is why so many answers feel generic: the assistant is working blind.
A connection changes that. Once an assistant is linked to a tool, it can look things up there, and sometimes act there. Ask what is on your calendar this week and it reads the calendar. Ask it to draft a reply to a client and save it in your drafts folder, and it can do that as well.
This is the step between Level 2, where you chat with an assistant, and Level 4, where agents do work. Connections are how the assistant gets hands. They are also where the risks appear, because a tool that can read your email can also read things you did not mean to share.
The rest of this course is about getting the benefit without giving away more than you intended.
Takeaway: connections turn an assistant from something that talks into something that can look things up and act. The power and the risk come from the same place.
