Pattern Matching, Not Magic
Every AI tool you have used, from a chat assistant to an image generator, does one basic thing: it finds patterns in a huge amount of examples and uses them to produce something that fits. It is not thinking the way you think, it does not understand the way you understand, and it is not looking anything up unless the product around it is built to. Once that clicks, most of the confusing behavior starts to make sense.
Think of a very well-read person who has skimmed millions of books, emails, and web pages but never lived a day of real life. They can tell you what usually comes next in a sentence, what a good answer usually looks like, and how an expert usually phrases things. What they cannot do is check whether what they just said is true.
That is the honest starting point for this course: AI is a powerful pattern engine, not a mind and not a search engine. It is useful because patterns are useful, and it is unreliable in exactly the places where patterns and facts come apart.
Takeaway: when an AI answer sounds confident, that tells you it matches a pattern, not that it is correct.
