What a Custom Stack Actually Is
You've met four layers so far: foundation models underneath everything, general assistants you talk to directly, specialized tools built for one job, and agents that act without you watching each step. A "stack" is what you get when you stop using these one at a time and start running them together, on purpose, as a system.
Think of it like the rest of your business software. You don't use just one app, you have a place for email, a place for invoices, a place for scheduling, and they're set up to work together. An AI stack is the same idea: a small set of tools, each doing the job it's best at, connected so information flows between them instead of living in your head or a dozen open tabs.
A stack isn't about using more tools. It's about using the right handful together well. Someone with three connected tools that hand off work automatically is running a tighter stack than someone with ten subscriptions they open one at a time.
You already have the pieces. If you've worked through Levels 2 through 4, you have a general assistant you trust, at least one specialized tool for a real need, and maybe one small automation connecting two things together. That's already the start of a stack, you just haven't looked at it as one system yet.
The rest of this course is about seeing that system clearly: what a real small-business stack looks like end to end, and how to build or extend yours on purpose instead of by accident.
