What It Costs and What It Needs

The software is free, but running it is not. There are three costs to think about.

The first is the model. The agent needs an AI model to think with, and you pay for that separately: through an API key with a provider, through a bundled subscription, or with hardware powerful enough to run a model locally. A busy agent that runs all day can use a lot, so start with a spending limit.

The second is a place to run it. That can be your own computer, but an agent that is always on usually means a small rented server, which is a small monthly cost and some setup.

The third is your time and comfort. You will be working in a terminal, keeping software updated, and making sense of error messages. Reviews of the project are consistent that it expects some technical comfort, that you take on server management, and that security is your job. There is no managed version where someone else handles it for you.

None of that is a reason to avoid it. It is a reason to know the real price before you begin, because the sticker price of free is misleading.

Takeaway: free software, but you pay for the model, the hosting, and your own time. Set a spending limit before you begin.
